Like I do often I was reading my rss feeds from some of my favorite bloggers via Bloglines. I found a post on a blog that I had just added a few days ago. In his post he asked his readers what he should be writing about.

This got my juices flowing, with a brain like mine it helps to hit at it a bit to get those juices flowing in the right direction. It was not the first time I had heard this question. In fact I myself have thought of making such a post many times.

After think about the question I came up with a few thoughts I’d like to share with you now.

Write for yourself first

This may sound simple, but have you really given it much thought? After blogging for a while you tend to lose focus on your original writing plans, and start chasing your readers. What do they want me to write about today slips it’s self into your mind. What keywords do I need to include in this post?

Well you get the picture. But was that your goal from the get-go? Is that why you started blogging? If you’re a niche marketer you might say yes. But if your blogging because you like to write and you love the social aspect that comes with blogging then you should reevaluate your way of thinking.

When you write about your passion, your writer’s voice will shine through. You’ll be writing for yourself but your readers will feel your passion for your subject matter, even if it’s just jokes and cut-ups.

If you’re writing what come natural, why fight it? And as unique as you are as a person, others will enjoy the same things you do. Your readers will find you for the writer you are and not for what you force yourself to be.

If your wondering who the blogger was that got my juices flowing on the subject I’m more than happy to share: Jon Dyer, I’ve only just found his blog but he has got my funny bone hooked!

What do you thank? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Loads of unnecessary graphics or just a slow host will dramatically decrease your blogs readership.

2 Advertising overload
Any site that bombards the visitor with ads; popup or otherwise is just a major turn off.

3 political statements
Unless your blog is all about politics, a political or religious post can alienate your readers

4 Rambling
The blogger that has no topic but blogs anyway. Or worse the blogger that has a million unrelated topics.

5 Bad design
With a blending mixing of colors or unreadable font, who can read anything wrapped in such squalor.

6 Ranting
Nobody wants to read someone’s complaints.

7 Bad or missing navigation
If you can’t find it, can you read it?

As many of you may know I have not been a very good blogger of late. The reasons were personal; I wanted to but had a few personal hurdles in the way. The problems do persist but not as heavily as before.

My fear was that all would be lost upon my return. However I am grateful to find the damage was much less than I feared. Sure my direct traffic has fallen but my subscriber base has grown and incoming links have kept steady.

So I have to question the wisdom of rhythmic blogging. Does it really matter? To some degree it has to be at the very least a consideration. But for me blogging is much more of a hobby, not a main source of income.

So blogging in a rhythmic fashion will never work for me, and now that I know it’s not a necessity I can take solace and only produce shiny content of which I can be proud to show.

So the question is who is rhythmic blogging right for? I would say not many bloggers can really say they feel proud of every piece the write. You must ask yourself: Do my posts offer something to the online community worth adding?

As I blogger, I myself had fallen into the belief that to grow my readership I had to pump out content in a daily basis. But I was wrong! What I wished I had grasped before now is that content is only king when the content is worthy of reading.

So my promise to you is no more waste of digital online ink from me. If I have something to contribute I will do my best to make it worthy of your time.

Thank you for your time, please feel free to add your thoughts I look forward to hearing from you.

Your WordPress RSS Feeds

RSS – really simple syndication, Rich Site Summary; No mater what it’s called it really is just an XML-based system for aggregating and rapidly scanning information from blogs, news and current event web sites, and other web sites that update content frequently.

So okay, if a site offers an RSS feed it means that you can get updates from a web site without a visit. Your user can enjoy your content by making use of RSS aggregating such as BlogLines, Netvibes ,and Google Reader just to mention a few.

But now you’re saying “David, Why would I want my content on another site?” At first I might think this is a bad thing to have, and yes it can be depending upon how it’s used but the benefits far out way the evil that could be done with it.

For the user it comes down to one factor; convenience. In today’s society we have become we find ourselves overloaded with information. Having a way to organize all that incoming data we want into one places save time.

WordPress RSS Feeds, Yes that’s plural

Most users of WordPress do not realize that WordPress offers more that 2 feeds; the main feed and the comment feed. In fact your site could have hundreds of feeds.

Each category has a feed, for example, if a user was only interested in my topics about blogging he could subscribe to just that category like so: http://myblogit.net/category/wp-templates/feed/

Say for example, you only wanted to subscribe to post with the tag WordPress, you could do this by using http://myblogit.net/tag/WordPress/feed/

So why not explore all your RSS feeds, simply put ‘feed/’ behind any url on your site that ends with a forwardslash ‘/’

I signed up for PayPerPost earlier this week and was just accepted today. If you’re a blogger you may want to check into this yourself. They have advertiser pay you to post about their website. It seems like I great opportunity for me to pay for the monthly hosting bills. They have a great deal to offer. I was afraid they would not have anything to offer that would be relevant to what I blog about. However I have found a few opportunities.

Their interface is very easy to navigate, and has a community feel. You can also put a link on your site that allows advertiser to order a post on your site.

I never realized that we bloggers could get paid, or make a living by posting about products, services and websites. It’s a brilliant Idea I only wish I had thought of it first. I does make a lot of since.

If your a blogger and could use a little extra dough, why not check them out.

The best part about it is; I can stick on topic, and with just a few post a month I’ll have my hosting bills paid in full.

Make sure you check them out, I promise it will be worth you time.
