Okay, before you get your panties in a bunch I’m not talking about the software but more to those that run it and the decisions and actions they have been making lately.
It has long been understood by WordPress theme designers that the WordPress leadership has some control issues. These issues come down to their desire to restrain competition from all but a chosen few.
Today @andrea_r posted a tweet about 200+ themes that had been removed from the theme viewer. She posted the source of : WordPress.org Pull 200 GPL Themes You should make a point to read Dave’s post.
The WordPress blogging platform and it’s success was not just built by the few folks that control it. It has become so popular by the work and equity of those building themes and plugins. Could you just imagine what WordPress would look like without all these great addons?
It would not be nearly successful as is it is today, not by a long shot!
Most people that have put their time and energies into developing themes and plugins started as just a way to give back to the software they love and it’s community. But it’s very natural to desire an income from what you enjoy doing.
And why shouldn’t they? Developing themes and plugins while continually working on making changes every few months to insure compatibility with new versions is a lot of work.
The only way you can a profit from WordPress is by doing custom design work…. Right? Will that change in the near future too?
At some point will WordPress refuse installation on domains of users that use WordPress to blog for profit? You may think this is a rather extreme thought, but then again if those developers that help make WordPress what it is today are not allowed to make their hobby into a business, is it really that far fetched?
Now I know that WordPress is not stopping them from making their hobby into a business but they are certainly not helping them.
By excluding them from the communities such as the WordPress Theme Library WordPress in my opinion is spitting in the face of the best WordPress contributors.
Have you noticed that every premium theme on the market has a link proudly proclaiming “Powered By WordPress”.
Maybe we should remove those links? and of course the links in the default blogroll…
Because when an open source project losses the support of it’s contributors it ether dies or goes commercial.

I agree with you, but consider that they have spent lot of resources to develop this open source blogging platform means that everyone can modify and use it for free and make money from it, so it benefited both the developer and users. I think we should thank to them, thanks for sharing thought.
Wordpress is a great platform. I’m also don’t like all the changes – they made, but I can’t say I hate tehm. However thanks for sharing…
Wordpress sucks and like you said, it’s about the people who run it. The owner, Matt Mullenpig (or is it mullenwig or mullenweg, whatever), only cares about growing the company. Walking all over everyone, being extremely unfair, mistreating others and taking advantage whenever he can is what he’s all about. He’s noting but a narcissist jerk. As long as he’s fooling all those investors just to get their millions, he thinks he’s on the right track.
Here’s a tip Matt, Karma! You will pay for every single unfair step you take against others. The rest of his employees feed off of his blood-sucking attitude too. They must have something in common since they all work together. The truth will come out sooner or later.
Children, children.
When you have the intelligence, motivation and skill to develop something like WordPress then go right ahead.
Until you do, stop criticising the people who already have.
You don’t like it then you have two options:
1. put up with it
2. leave.
And if you leave, no-one will notice because WordPress will survive without you.
You just don’t get that in the whole scheme of things you are not important.
And that is the thing that is really pissing you off isn’t it? Lack of power.
Wordpress is open source it is not a democracy. Getover it.
Yeah, that a pretty good bLOG, I like it. Give me more man
Wordpress is so simple that’s why it sucks at times. I think it will get better over time. But you have to admit that it does put the power of on page seo in the hands of the newbie.
Ann Andersons last blog post..Fremont Bank lends $800 million in home mortgages – San Francisco Business Times:
It’s the first time I commented here and I must say you share us genuine, and quality information for bloggers! Good job.
p.s. You have a very good template for your blog. Where did you find it?
I agree with you that WP sucks – which is why I run Drupal. Windows sucks – which is why I use linux.
So… ummm… Why exactly are you using their software to blog about how it sucks? Why still supporting them this way? (Sorry but the irony is just killing me)
