I wish I had some news for you that are interested in an update. I have tried contacting everyone I can thank of who might have some news. I haven’t yet received any replies.
I do know that the longer it lingers with no update the sadder it could become for the WordPress community.
The theme viewer served many purposes. At least that’s they way I feel. For me it served as inspiration in the fact I could see what other developers were doing, and draw on their skills to enhance my own.
It’s been over a month since the last public news release from the WordPress Viewer. They announced bugs fixed. However if you’ve been there recently you know that there are still a number of bugs. I’m not sure if this is due to the fact that they are using the old version or if they truly do still exist. I suspect it’s due to the fact that they are still running the old version.
There still stands the topic of the evil themes, but now with the lack of new themes on the viewer; WordPress users are forced to find themes at new venues that answer to no one. If the concern was really for those users I would think that the viewer would have been given more of a priority than it currently has.
Maybe a press release from WordPress should describe to users the steps necessary to weed out the evil themes themselves. I don not think this is the answer, but it is food for thought.
I could only guess what the hold up could be. If it’s just that there are not enough volunteers I know I have an extra hour or two every week. I’m sure there are many others that feel the same.
No news doesn’t necessarily mean bad news. But if it’s the end of the theme viewer we all deserve to know. After all we theme developers have added to the success of WordPress, and wish to continue that effort.
