What Happened to the WordPress theme community

You may have noticed the WordPress theme community has slowed to a snails pace. You don’t need to be worried. There are a few factors that seem to have slowed the addition of new themes.

SandBox Competition – If you don’t know about this one; Where you been? Sandbox is a template that adds enhancements, and replaces the normal theme. It’s also ment to introduce standardization to WordPress themes.

Without going into to much detail they are having competition that ends on the 29th. Part of the agreement the participants have made is not to share their skins with anyone until it’s over. A large portion of WordPress theme developers are working diligently to craft their best work.

The ThemeViewer – You may have noticed that there are no new themes on the themeviewer, infact they are shrinking the database. Well there is a plan in the works to bring WordPress back to life with a fresh clean bill of health. They will be removing all sponsored themes, and themes with low quality. I happened to be watching last week, I think it was Friday when the gave a sneak peek of it’s future. I expect they will be back to work on it some time this week. You can read all about it here
Sponsored themes – Okay, so now that the WordPress theme viewer will no longer be allowing sponsored themes, a large number of developers have lost there will to develop themes. However my guess is they’ll be back with a new twist soon enough.

My solution for you word press theme junkies. There are a few other WordPress Theme viewers such as WP Themes Free Also You could check out digg’s WordPress rss feed
